Acupuncture

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient eastern treatment technique that has been developed into a mainstream treatment and skill of many musculoskeletal physiotherapists. It is proposed that acupuncture has the ability to stimulate the body's self-repair mechanisms. We also think that acupuncture reduces pain by altering pain processing and by stimulating the brain to release its natural painkillers.

Will acupuncture help me?

Acupuncture can be used for the management of chronic pain and for myofascial release of muscle pain. It can be used for the management of some headache types and osteoarthritis, and also for the treatment of other conditions and sports injuries such as shin splints and tennis elbow. Acupuncture can be an excellent adjunct treatment alongside therapeutic exercise.

There are limited negative side effects to acupuncture and patients often report that it isn’t as painful as it often sounds. Our physiotherapists have postgraduate training from the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists. We can offer this service at both our Rugby and Coventry Clinics.
