Physiotherapy can be a very effective treatment for Achilles pain, Achilles tendinopathy and calf-related injuries.
What is Achilles Pain?
The Achilles tendon is the strong tendon at the back of your ankle that connects your calf muscles to your heel bone. It plays an important role in walking, running, jumping, climbing stairs and pushing off through your foot.
Achilles pain is often linked to irritation or overload of the tendon. This is commonly known as Achilles tendinopathy. It can come on gradually over time or develop after a sudden increase in activity, training or walking.
Achilles pain can affect runners, gym-goers, sports people and people who spend long periods on their feet. It can also be linked to calf weakness, stiffness, footwear, training changes and biomechanics.
There are other causes of pain around the back of the ankle, so your physiotherapist will assess you properly and explain what is likely to be causing your symptoms.
